HSBC GAM plans ETF push in 2020

HSBC Global Asset Management (HSBC GAM) has planned to grow its ETF business in 2020 and subsequent years. The firm currently manages $49.3bn in passive strategies and $8.5bn in ETF strategies.

In the first half of 2020, HSBC GAM will launch eight new ESG ETFs focusing on Europe, US, Japan, developed markets, emerging markets, Asia, UK and Europe ex. UK, as well as develop a fixed income ETF platform. Later in the year, it also plans to launch a passive platform for precious metals.

To support these initiatives, around 15 roles will be created next year. These will work across different functions, including product development, operations, sales specialists, capital markets, marketing and ETF strategists.

HSBC GAM has been offering passive strategies to its clients for nearly three decades and has implemented ESG principles into its investment process since 2001.

Nicolas Moreau, global CEO of HSBC Global Asset Management, said: "ETFs are still one of the fastest growing investment products in Europe and Asia, and we are seeing increased demand from our clients for ESG-focused ETFs. Combining our responsible investment and ETF expertise is a natural next step for us. These launches will also provide our distribution partners with the right products to cater to the demand they see from their clients."
