UK asset management firm Columbia Threadneedle has appointed Gabriel Simón as sales director for Iberia in a move aimed at boosting its business in the southern European market.
Simón will be responsible for expanding the firm's relationships with its clients in Iberia, which include financial advisory firms, fund selectors, financial advisory networks, private banking, insurers, and discretionary funds' managers.
He will also be in charge of giving support to the firm's global commercial relationships across Latin America, alongside Carlos Moreno and Bárbara Echazarra. They will be reporting to Rubén García Páez, Columbia Threadneedle Spain director since 2007.
With around 15 years' experience in the financial markets, Simón joins the UK manager from Santander AM, where he has worked for the past years as a senior fund manager of asset allocation strategies at the asset and private banking division. Prior to that, he worked at Merril Lynch in San Francisco.
Columbia Threadneedle announced on Tuesday that Mark Burgess, its EMEA CIO and Deputy Global CIO was leaving the firm after nine years.
