Andrew Graham, portfolio manager, head of Asia Martin Currie, an affiliate of Legg Mason Global Asset Management will outline the investment opportunities inherrent in the ongoing growth of Asia when he presents at the upcoming Helsinki Roundtable, hosted by InvestmentEurope on the morning of 24 September at the Hotel Kämp.
One of the points highlighted is that despite the economic growth, the region's stock markets have not delivered consistently to investors. As manager of the Martin Currie Asia Long-Term Unconstrained strategy, Graham is seeking to translate that economic growth into returns for clients, by focusing on companies in turn capable of translating the region's economic growth into sustainable profit and cashflow growth.
The strategy relies on a buy and hold approach to a high conviction portfolio, using accounting diagnostics to understand company fundamentals, with an eye to strong corporate governance.
Graham joined Martin Currie in May 2010 and heads its Asia team. He is co-manager of the Martin Currie Asia Pacific and Asia Long-Term Unconstrained strategies alongside the Martin Currie Asia Unconstrained Trust. He joined the group from Sofaer Global Research, bringing with him over 20 years' experience of managing Asia-Pacific equities. At Sofaer, where he was a partner, he managed the company's Japan absolute return fund and co-managed its Pacific-region absolute return fund. Prior to this he spent five years as senior vice president at Putnam Investments, where he co-managed its International Capital Opportunities Fund, focusing particularly on the Asia-Pacific region. Earlier in his career, he held portfolio management roles at both Scottish Widows Investment Partnership and Kemper Investment Management.
