Fulcrum Asset Management has appointed Fidelity International's Howard Fryer as sales director, UK wholesale.
In his new role, Fryer will oversee the development of the firm's wholesale client base, both onshore and offshore, including life and insurance groups, strategic partners, nationals, networks and IFAs as well as platforms and UK rating agencies. He joins from Fidelity International where he was a business development director.
Wells Fargo Asset Management (WFAM) has hired Mattias Scheiber from Schroders as global head of portfolio management, multi-asset solutions.
Reporting to Dan Morris, head of multi-asset solutions at WFAM, who also joined from Schroders in 2017, Scheiber will be responsible for developing and managing the firm's outcome-orientated multi-asset strategies.
Amundi has hired Ashley Fagan from BlackRock as head of ETF, indexing and smart-beta development for UK and Ireland.
As part of Fagan's role, she will also be global head of ETF, indexing and smart-beta strategic accounts coordination. Fagan spent ten years at BlackRock, most recently as head of iShares UK and Ireland institutional. Prior to this, she headed up the iShares Corporate Treasury arm for EMEA.
Bill Gross, who co-founded fixed income specialist PIMCO in 1971 before joining Janus Capital (now Janus Henderson) in 2014, has announced he will retire in March, after a career of over 40 years, to focus on managing his personal assets and private charitable foundation

UBS has hired former SMRT Corp chief executive Desmond Kuek as divisional vice chairman for global wealth management.
Desmond Kuek, the former chief of local rail operator SMRT Corp, will join UBS on Feb 18, the Swiss bank said in a statement. UBS said Kuek's experience as an executive, government official and board member will be of great value in strengthening its relationships with existing clients, forging new ones and growing the business across Asia Pacific.
Tokio Marine Life Insurance Singapore has appointed an insurance and banking veteran as its new chief to replace outgoing CEO James Tan. Christopher Teo Sze Teck has taken the role of chief executive officer at Tokio Marine Life Insurance Singapore (TMLS), the company said in a press statement. He replaces James Tan, who was chief of TMLS from 2016 to November 2018.
