Candriam has promoted Elena Guanter Ros to head of Clients Relations Iberia and head of Development LatAm replacing Nabil El-Asmar, who departed the firm in October.
Guanter, who was to the date Candriam's head of institutional sales, takes on her new role immediately and will be based in Madrid reporting to Renato Guerriero, global head of Distribution.
With over 20 years' experience in the asset management industry, Guanter joined Candriam in 2003, and previously worked at various entities including Credit Suisse Private Banking and Merrill Lynch (in Madrid and London).
Established in 2002, Madrid has become an increasingly important hub for Candriam, targeting the Spanish and Portuguese markets as well as Latin America.
Candriam has some €4bn of assets under management in Spain, ranking among the 20 largest foreign asset managers in the country. The firm is well known for its alternative management solutions and fixed income products, but in the past few years Spanish investors' appetite has also evolved towards more ESG-focused products.
Renato Guerriero said: "Spain is an important market for Candriam and it is great to see us gaining a lot of momentum. The experience garnered over the past two decades and the solid relations established with the market's major players make us very confident about the future. Elena has all the skills and qualities needed to lead the team and continue to find business opportunities on the Iberian market while increasing our footprint in Latin America."
Elena Guanter Ros added: "In the 15 years that I have worked for Candriam I have witnessed and been delighted that the Candriam brand has gotten more and more attention from the Spanish market. Our products and services are well diversified and aligned with current demand in Spain. Our objective is to continue to deliver a best in class service to our clients and the best investment solutions tailored to their needs."
