Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) has appointed Giancarlo Sandrin as Italy country head, Wholesale and Retail in a move aimed at strengthening the firm’s capabilities in the country.

Sandrin, who will be based in Milan, joins LGIM from CFA Society Italy where he spent over three years, first as a board member, and most recently as president. Prior to that, he held the role of head of Asset Management clients iShares Italy – director for BlackRock where he worked for more than a decade.

Former roles include relationship manager at HSBC Investments, where he was responsible of dealing with Italian and Swiss institutional clients on asset management products, both long-only and alternative products (hedge funds). He also worked at MTS SpA and Unicredito Group – TLX as as relationship manager too.

“We have selectively expanded into new markets across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the US. We believe that translating our capabilities to reflect the needs of our international clients will mean we are well placed to help them achieve their objectives,” says the firm.

LGIM is the investment management arm of Legal & General Group, a FTSE 100 company, whose assets under management amounted to £984.8bn as at 30 June 2018.

The manager offers strategies across the full spectrum of asset classes, including equities, bonds, property, alternatives and cash, as well as multi-asset strategies tailored to the needs of institutional and retail investors.
