LOIM appoints ING’s Jan Straatman as CIO

Lombard Odier Investment Managers has appointed Jan Straatman as chief investment officer, a newly-created position, effective 1 March 2012.

He joins from ING Investment Management where for the last two years he was global CIO, overseeing €330bn of client assets.

He will be based in London, reporting to Hubert Keller, a managing partner of Lombard Odier and co-responsible for LOIM along with Thierry Lombard.

Straatman has 28 years of investment experience. He joined ING’s European asset management unit as CIO in 2008 before becoming global CIO for that business. While there, he oversaw 800 investment professionals worldwide in 32 locations.

Between 2006 and 2008 Straatman was CEO/CIO at Pearl Group in London and from 2001 to 2006 was CIO capital markets at ABP Investments, a large pension funds based in Amsterdam and New York. He has also worked for Achmea Global Investors, PVF Pensioenen and began his career at GIM/GIM Capital Management in the Netherlands and the US.

SSgA appoints emerging markets equities CIO

State Street Global Advisors has appointed Michael Ho as chief investment officer for its active emerging markets equities and global macro business.

He joins from Mellon Capital Management where he oversaw all investments as chief investment officer responsible for approximately $220bn in assets under management.

Earlier in his career, Ho was head of research for Global Tactical Asset Allocation and oversaw hedge funds at Mellon Capital where he generated a strong performance record. 

Ho is based in Boston and reports to Alistair Lowe, global chief investment officer for active equities. He will manage the active emerging markets team and lead the development of global macro strategies.

Friends Life Investments hires fixed income team

Friends Life Investments, the asset management business set to be launched in the second half of 2012, has announced the team of fund managers who will oversee its fixed income portfolios.

The fixed income team from Liverpool Victoria Asset Management will join the company in January 2012. Michael Wright, John Hampton, Purna Bhudia and Nigel Bradshaw will be London based and report to chief investment officer, Mark Versey.

Wright, previously head of fixed interest at LV= Asset Management, will lead the new team as director fixed income, responsible for fixed income asset allocation and direct management of the government bond portfolios.

Hampton will continue with the management of corporate bonds as head of credit. He will oversee all the institutional corporate bond portfolios and report directly to Wright.

Bhudia and Bradshaw will both continue to report to Hampton and will join the team as corporate bond portfolio managers.
