DWS announced a trio of senior appointments to its institutional client team across Europe, as part of the asset manager’s Global Coverage Group. Gareth Davies joined as head of UK Institutional Clients, Alexia Giugni joined as head of Institutional Clients Southern Europe and Shalin Bhagwan joined as head of UK Pensions Advisory. All three will also join the institutional leadership team.
Davies has significant experience on both the consultant and client side. He was previously head of Client Relationship Management at Hermes Investment Management, where he built and developed client relationships across multiple distribution channels. Prior to this he was a managing director in the Institutional Client Business team at BlackRock where he was responsible for strategic UK pension scheme clients. He previously held senior roles at Henderson, JP Morgan and Bacon & Woodrow, where he qualified as an Actuary.
Giugni has over 25 years’ experience in investment banking, with senior roles in fixed income distribution at JP Morgan, Citigroup and UBS. For the past 18 years Giugni has had a strong focus on insurance clients, and she has a highly developed understanding of the European insurance market, including regulatory considerations and access to senior investors. In her previous roles Giugni has worked with asset management businesses to create and develop new products for insurance investors and to identify new investment rationales for existing products.
Bhagwan was previously head of Fixed Income at Ashburton Investments, where he was responsible for its Liability Driven Investment business. Prior to this he was head of UK LDI at AXA Investment Managers and head of Structuring for Legal & General Investment Management. Bhagwan has held previous roles with Mercer Investment Consulting and Hewitt Associates, where he implemented some of the first LDI strategies for UK pension funds.
