Helmut Bernkopf joins UniCredit as head of its private banking division
UniCredit Private Banking has appointed Helmut Bernkopf to head its private banking division. He will report directly to UniCredit's general manager, Roberto Nicastro. The appointment gives Bernkopf a seat on the group's business executive management committee.
"Today, the UniCredit private banking division is among the leading players in Europe, as well as leader in those markets that are key to us, such as Italy, Austria and Poland," Nicastro said in a statement.
Bernkopf was previously head of corporate and investment banking (Austria) at Bank Austria Creditanstalt, and on the bank's management the board. He also held a number of senior management roles for the bank in its subsidiaries in Romania, Russia and London.
UniCredit owns a 96.35% stake in Bank Austria Creditanstalt, renamed Bank Austria in 2008. The group has a presence in 19 markets in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
