MFS boosts European growth with senior hire

MFS has announced the appointment of Matthew Weisser (pictured) as managing director for Europe.

In this newly created role, Weisser will be responsible for managing and developing MFS’ growing wholesale business across Europe and will lead the sales management effort across key distribution channels.

Lina Medeiros, president of MFS International Ltd said: “We have made good strategic progress building our presence across Europe in recent years. By focusing on a group of core growth markets, we have seen our business go from strength to strength. As we look ahead to the next phase of our development, we are firmly focused on plans to deepen our client base across the region and to diversify our product offering.”

Since 2010 MFS has seen its international wholesale business grow from $10.8bn to $30.4bn today. Top selling strategies in the MFS Meridian Funds product range have included European equities, global equities and emerging market debt.

“When we looked at what was needed to sustain this high level of growth for the years ahead, we felt it was strategically important to strengthen the leadership of our sales team. We are delighted to have been able to attract such a talented and knowledgeable individual, who brings years of regional and global experience. I am confident that Matthew will prove to be a great asset to the team as we extend our position in the European market,” added Medeiros.

With over 13 years’ in the industry, Weisser joins from Standard Chartered Bank, where he spent five years leading and managing the bank’s distribution team for the EMEA region. Prior to that he spent eight years with UBS Wealth Management, working within their Americas sales team and more recently the North, East and Central Europe sales team.

Commenting on his appointment, Matthew said: “This is an exciting opportunity for me. I’m looking forward to taking my experience gained working at two multinational wealth managers and using that knowledge to help MFS reach its future growth potential in Europe.”

MFS International Ltd currently serves wholesale clients across Europe, with its European sales headquarters in London and regional offices in Frankfurt, Zurich, Paris, Madrid and Milan.
