UN PRI welcome first Palestinian signatory

Some 17 investment management companies have become new signatories of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI) in January so far.
Six of the asset managers which signed the UN PRI this month are based in the United Kingdom: Mayfair Capital Investment Management (property), Promethean Investments (private equity), Apera Capital (private debt), Colombus Point, Lofoten Asset Management (adviser to a EI Sturdza’s European equity fund) and also private equity firm established with the princely family of Liechtenstein L-Gam.
In Europe, Spanish equity boutique Magallanes Value Investors, Swedish fixed income and equity manager Captor AB as well as French boutique Equigest and Luxembourg private equity company Active Ownership Capital.
Among new signatories in January 2018, the UN PRI added Siraj Fund Management, first investment management signatory to be based in the State of Palestine.
Having been recognized on 9 January 2018 as a signatory, Siraj Fund Management was founded by Palestine-based Massar International group in 2003 and manages private equity funds established in Palestine.
Siraj’s strategies invest in SMEs and larger enterprises in Palestine that range from start-ups or distressed companies across various economic sectors.
The six principles for responsible investment set by the United Nations include the incorporation of ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes, ownership policies and practices; the disclosure on ESG issues by the companies invested, the promotion for the implementation of the principles within the investment industry. Also signatories engage to work together to enhance their effectiveness in implementing the principles and report on their activities and progress towards implementing the principles.
The UN PRI tally 1,908 signatories worldwide as of 26 January 2018, of which 1,300 are investment managers.
