Javier San Félix, currently global head of retail and commercial banking at Banco Santander, has been appointed chairman of Efma, the association representing some 3,300 retail financial services companies in 130 countries.
He takes over from Hans van der Noordaa, former member of the board at ING and soon-to-be CEO of Delta Lloyd.
Patrick Desmarès, Efma’s secretary general, said the appointment would support the association’s ongoing commitment to developing its capabilities, including digital capabilities.
“Javier really understands where our industry is heading and is a fantastic representative for our organisation, which is continually looking to deepen its relationships with retail banks worldwide. Not only will Javier support us as we keep on growing our global presence, but he realises the importance of building strategic relationships with businesses outside of our industry, such as retailers. His knowledge and experience will help us to build on our core strengths and develop a truly global Efma. I am delighted to have him on board and look forward to sharing the future successes that we will undoubtedly achieve together.”
Efma was founded over 40 years ago, but in the past decade has focused its activities on broadening its global presence, with offices in locations including Singapore, India and Dubai.
