Inflows to fixed interest and equity funds can vary considerably month on month, says Jessica Malmfors, chief executive Skandia Fonder.

Historically, this monthly volatility of inflows from Swedish investors is something Skandia has had to juggle depending on broader changes in the market precipitating investor sentiment.

The provider’s experience is that customers were particularly challenged over what they considered acceptable levels of risk in their portfolios when the financial crisis hit, as it led to losses that they perhaps were not prepared for.

Since then there has been a noted increase in demand for ways to determine more precisely what level of risk is acceptable, leading Skandia to develop its adviser tool called Matchmaker, which enables Skandia’s customers to find their preferable level of risk. This in turn has been matched with the development of a fund range called Skala.
