Newton Investment Management (Newton IM), part of BNY Mellon Investment Management, has announced the appointment of Andy Warwick to its real return team, and will report to Suzanne Hutchins.

Warwick will join on 30 July 2018 and, subject to any necessary approvals, will work as co-lead portfolio manager on the Newton and BNY Mellon Real Return strategies, alongside co-lead portfolio managers Suzanne Hutchins and Aron Pataki.

He joins from BlackRock where he was co-manager of the BlackRock Dynamic Diversified Growth fund, as well as being manager of the BGF Flexible Multi-Asset fund, BlackRock Balanced Growth fund and BlackRock Balanced Managed fund.

Commenting on the appointment, Fergus McCarthy, head of UK and Ireland intermediary distribution at BNY Mellon Investment Management, said: “The expansion of Newton IM’s real return team is a strong recognition of the importance of the strategy to our business and the growth we expect from it in the UK, Irish and other markets around the world.”

With 20 years of experience running multi-asset funds, Warwick will set to the real return team, particularly in cross-asset-class research, macro input and portfolio construction. He has significant experience across asset classes, including equities, fixed income, commodities, credit, volatility and alternatives.

“The strategy will continue to be based on its fundamental principles, but its approach will continue to evolve as the strategy seeks to navigate an evolving financial landscape and exploits a broad opportunity set to meet the requirements of our clients”, added McCarthy.

The strategy follows a team-based approach, which gains from the broad and balanced expertise of portfolio managers Suzanne Hutchins, Iain Stewart, Aron Pataki, Matt Brown and Phil Shucksmith.
