Amundi appoints new CIO for alternatives arm

Amundi has appointed Heinrich Merz as new chief investment officer of its alternative investments subsidiary, Amundi Alternative Investments (Amundi AI).

Merz was formerly co-deputy chief investment officer at Permal Investment Management Services where he was a member of the firm’s investment committee and managed a number of funds, including customised hedge fund portfolios.

Prior to this, he was a senior hedge fund specialist at Cambridge Associates. From 2005 to 2008, Merz was trader then analyst in the equity team of Concordia Advisors, a multi-strategy hedge fund, where he started his career.

Pascal Blanqué, chief investment officer of Amundi, commented : “This appointment confirms Amundi’s commitment to the expansion of its alternative business to meet investors’ demand for truly innovative, integrated and customized multi-management solutions”.

Amundi had over €950 bn of assets under management worldwide at end September 2015.

Its alternative arm, Amundi AI, has above $7 bn (€6.4bn) in assets under management as at 30 September 2015.
