Man hires senior World Bank officer as director
Man Group has appointed Nina Shapiro as a non-executive director with immediate effect.
Her career has included senior roles within the World Bank, where she was vice-president, finance and treasurer of the International Finance Corporation from 2000.
After joining the World Bank as a young professional in 1978, Shapiro held a variety of positions in the Bank and IFC.
She managed the IFC’s funding, liquid asset investments, asset liability and initiatives in structured finance as well as in local currency and risk hedging instruments.
Natixis Global Associates UK strengthens wholesale team
Natixis Global Associates UK has appointed James Walkin to its wholesale sales team in London.
He joins from Scottish Widows investment partnership, where he was a sales support and relationship executive, working as part of the multi-manager distribution team and focusing on relationships with intermediaries.
Walkin will report to Derek Brander, director of UK wholesale sales.
Isle of Man treasury officer promoted to chief minister
Former treasury and economic development minister Allan Bell has been appointed as the new chief minister of the Isle of Man.
He was elected by the British Crown Dependency’s parliament, of which he has been a member for 27 years.
Bell takes over as leader of the Manx government from Tony Brown, who retired from politics.
He was first elected to the House of Keys in 1984 and was treasury minister from 2001 to 2010.
SIM makes senior hires after fund launch
Swiss Investment Managers (SIM) appointed Kevin Ryan (left) and Andrew Garai as non-executive directors, while Melina Panagos was named COO and head of compliance.
The appointments follow the launch of the directors’ dealings fund. According to the company, it is the first and only hedge fund dedicated to investing based on directors’ and senior executives’ own dealings in their firms’ shares.
Ryan is the founder of HedgeDirector Ltd, a provider of expert, independent directors to the hedge fund industry.
He was also a founding employee at Financial Risk Management and has more than 18 years of experience in researching and investing in hedge funds.
Garai co-founded and acted as managing director of Trafalgar Capital Advisors. He brings with him almost three decades of experience with Dresdner Bank, Bear Stearns, LCF Edmond de Rothschild Securities and Fidelity Brokerage.
Panagos joins SIM bringing with her two decades of both operational and investment banking experience.
She previously held senior positions at ANZ Investment Bank, ABN Amro Bank and the Greece-listed OTE SA and Petzetakis SA.
She will be responsible for operational and compliance control and risk management at the firm.
Senior hires at Pioneer Investments sales team
Pioneer Investments has appointed three senior directors (institutional clients) to its sales team in Germany. All joined on 1 October.
Oliver Bilal, managing director responsible for institutional and wholesale sales (Germany), said the company wants to expand its institutional client base in the country with a focus on corporates, pension funds and insurances.
Markus Becker focuses on clients from the insurance industry. He joins from Invesco AM where he was director of institutional business.
Prior to this, he worked for six years at DBI Dresdner Bank Investment Management, now Allianz Global Investors.
Tobias Löschmann is in charge of the sales business with corporates and corporate pension funds.
He joins from BNP Paribas Investment Partners where he held several sales positions over the past ten years, with his most recent position as director of institutional business.
Holger Schäfer focuses on professional pension funds, foundations and non-profit organisations.
He also joins from BNP Paribas Investment Partners, where he was director for institutional clients over the past three years. Prior to this, he was a client relationship manager at Baring Asset Management.
