Asset manager AllianceBernstein has bolstered its European sales team in a hiring spree from Schroders and Pioneer Investments, and a fixed income product manager from Overlay Asset Management.

The $473bn asset manager is targeting Germany in particular for distribution possibilities.

It comes at a busy time of product development for the firm, which arose from the merger of Sanford C. Bernstein and Alliance Capital, sealed in 2000 with a handshake “in the basement of an Italian retaurant in New York”.

AllianceBernstein recently launched a multi-asset class fund focused on emerging markets under the head of its emerging markets multi-asset team Morgan Harting.

Mirko Boettcher joined AllianceBernstien yesterday in London as head of European third party distribution, having spent 10 years at Schroders Investment Management as global relationship manager in the financial institutions group.

Gunnar Knierim also joined yesterday, in Munich as an advisor for Germany. For the past six years, Knierim held senior sales roles for Pioneer Investments in Germany.

Separately the group hired Elizabeth Para (pictured) as product manager, business development, a position based in London.

Para will be a fixed income specialist for EMEA, having most recently been a currency investment strategist at Overlay Asset Management.

Richard Haxe, AllianceBernstein head of EMEA distribution, said: “These three new hires substantially enhance our ability to expand our footprint in Europe in general, and Germany in particular.”
