SSGA announced the appointment of Amlan Roy as global chief retirement strategist.
Roy is a distinguished industry thought leader best known for his work on macroeconomics, asset pricing and behavioural finance, which has contributed significantly to the understanding of how these secular trends can be incorporated into investment themes and specific portfolio exposures.
He joins from Credit Suisse where he was head of global demographics and pensions research. During his near twenty years at Credit Suisse, he held a variety of roles including founding director of the European pensions advisory and structuring group, and director of the fixed income research and global demographics project. He joined the firm in January 1998 as a vice president for the global emerging markets strategy team where he developed global emerging markets models for risks and ratings across 36 countries.
Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Roy spent more than ten years in academia at Boston University School of Management, University of Iowa Business School and the University of London (Queen Mary and Westfield College, and London School of Economics), where he lectured on topics including investments, macroeconomics, financial and managerial economics, international finance and statistics. He also currently maintains positions as senior research associate for the London School of Economics’ financial markets group and guest finance professor at London Business School.
Roy will be responsible for leading research and thought leadership efforts around global demographics and related implications for economic, policy, retirement and investment trends. He will be based in London and report to Lori Heinel, deputy global chief investment officer for SSGA.
