Russell Investments appoints head of EMEA

Russell Investments announced the appointment of Joseph Joe Linhares as head of EMEA.

Linhares has spent the last 16 years at BlackRock in a variety of leadership positions in EMEA and the US. He will report directly to CEO Len Brennan and serve as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He will be based in London. He has had an extensive career leading growth businesses and initiatives at BlackRock and its predecessor firm Barclays global investors, most recently as the global head of Platinum Accounts. He was also a member of BlackRock’s operating committee and retail global executive committee.

“At a time of rapid change for the financial services industry, Russell Investments is in a unique position to help meet evolving demands and expectations from clients large and small. I look forward to playing an instrumental role in growing the firm and helping Russell Investments solidify its global leadership position in multi-asset investing”, said Joseph Joe Linhares.

Part of his tenure at BlackRock was spent in London as the firm’s managing director and head of EMEA iShares. He joined iShares in 2000 in the US as it began its industry advancement, and subsequently helped drive significant business growth, ultimately becoming US head of iShares Distribution. This success led to the role leading the EMEA iShares business, in which he oversaw tremendous growth as well as acquisition of the Credit Suisse ETF business. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Citibank and JPMorgan.

“Linhares brings a valuable combination of skills to Russell Investments, including deep industry and market expertise as well as the demonstrated ability to lead successful teams and identify and capture business growth opportunities,” said Len Brennan.
