Franklin Templeton appoints new European equity chief

Franklin Templeton has integrated the Franklin European Equity team within the Templeton Global Equity Group (TGEG), effective November 2017.

Based in London, Dylan Ball will be head of European Equity Strategies, and will act as lead portfolio manager of the suite of European equity strategies. He will report to Norm Boersma, chief investment officer, Templeton Global Equity Group.

As result of this integration, Uwe Zoellner, will be leaving Franklin Templeton after a period of transition.

The firm said “combining the European businesses made strategic sense given the significant overlap in mandates, and we believe that the shared and expanded resources will benefit shareholders and clients across the strategies.”

Ball is also executive vice president, portfolio manager for TGEG with over 20 years of industry experience, 11 of which have been with Franklin Templeton. He was formerly a research analyst with Credit Suisse First Boston, and previous to that he was a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

With Ball expanding his focus to include the Franklin European portfolios, senior members of the TGEG team, Maarten Bloemen, EVP, portfolio manager, research analyst, and Katherine Owen, EVP, portfolio manager, research analyst will join Ball as co-lead portfolio managers on two TGEG strategies, subject to regulatory approval.
