The private bank Berenberg has expanded its fund range with the launch of two new equity funds that focuses on All-Cap Europe and Eurozone. Both the funds will be managed by Matthias Born, who joined Berenberg from Allianz Global Investors (AGI).
The Berenberg European Focus fund will invest in all European countries, while the Berenberg Eurozone Focus fund will focus on the euro area. With the new equity funds, Berenberg will invest in the companies with the best prospects for above-average structural growth and sustainably high profitability, based on a fundamental single-label selection.
Matthias Born said: “The two new funds rely on a very concentrated portfolio with a maximum of 50 stocks. The focus is on companies with a market capitalisation of approximately €5bn, and the addition of ancillary stocks with an average of 25% is an essential part of the strategy. Here, the experience of fund manager Peter Kraus, who came alongside Beren from Allianz Global Investors to Berenberg, will play a central role.”
Matthias Born began his career at Allianz Global Investors in 2001 as a team for European small and mid-caps in which he initially managed a German equity fund for German growth stocks as well as portfolios for European small and mid-caps. Since 2007, he has been successfully managing the Concentra, a classic among the German equity funds. Since 2009 he was co-head of the team for European growth stocks at AGI.
