Exclusive: La Financière de l'Echiquier changes PM on flagship fund

French boutique La Financière de l’Echiquier faced the departures of Frédéric Plisson and Gilles Constantini, the pair in charge of its flagship European large cap growth fund Echiquier Major, and handed over the fund to two new co-managers, InvestmentEurope can reveal.
Matthieu Detroyat, who joined LFDE in 2016 as European large cap equity analyst, was named co-portfolio manager on the Echiquier Major fund last October.
In addition, Adrien Bommelaer has been appointed co-portfolio manager on the fund in December 2017, joining from Liontrust in London where he served as partner and global equity portfolio manager within the sustainable investment team when Liontrust purchased Alliance Trust Investments. Bommelaer was a global equity fund manager with Alliance Trust since 2012.
Echiquier Major had €877.5m of assets under management as of 10 January 2018.
It is understood former fund managers of the fund, Plisson and Constantini, have left the firm. InvestmentEurope has learned Constantini joined Montpensier Finance in November 2017.
LFDE also recorded the departures of Kevin Guillot, who stepped down from his role as co-fund manager on the Echiquier Agressor fund, six months after joining the company from Verrazzano Capital, and of Damien Lanternier, who left to DNCA Investments in October 2017, after a 13-year stint with LFDE.
Lastly, another change in the life of the French boutique has been the agreement signed with Primonial last December, that will see LFDE acquiring the asset management activities of Primonial, AltaRocca Asset Management and Stamina Asset Management, that currently operate under the Primonial Investment Managers brand.
According to the terms of the deal, Primonial will acquire a 40% stake in LFDE, hence becoming a reference shareholder alongside founding majority shareholders, Didier Le Menestrel and Christian Gueugnier.
