Jupiter has appointed two new analysts to its fixed income team. The new hires will have a specific focus on emerging markets, and will add significant support to Jupiter’s newly-established emerging market debt (EMD) strategy, led by Alejandro Arevalo.
Nachu Chockalingam joined Jupiter on 5 June 2017 from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan where she was an EM corporates portfolio manager. Prior to this she spent 12 years at J.P. Morgan, starting in corporate finance before becoming an analyst covering European investment grade and high yield credit and then emerging markets credit.
Reza Karim joined Jupiter in early May from Henderson Global Investors where he was an EM research analyst for two years covering corporate and sovereign credit in the Central Eastern Europe Middle East & Africa region. He previously spent four years at HSBC as a credit research associate covering emerging markets.
Chockalingam and Karim will work closely with Alejandro and existing EMD specialist Vikram Aggarwal to build out Jupiter’s emerging market presence. They will primarily focus on the recently-launched Jupiter global emerging markets corporate bond fund, but will also generate ideas for Ariel Bezalel’s £12bn unconstrained bond strategy. While their focus is on fixed income, they will also work with Jupiter’s emerging markets equities team led by head of Strategy, emerging markets, Ross Teverson. Both analysts will report to Hilary Blandy, Jupiter’s head of Credit Research.
Ariel Bezalel, Jupiter’s head of Strategy, Fixed Income, commented: “As we continue to build our fixed income capabilities, and to establish ourselves firmly in the EMD space, it is important that we add the right resource at the right time. We believe these appointments represent a significant step forward for this part of our fixed income strategy at Jupiter, and we are very pleased to welcome Chockalingam and Karim to the team.”
Alejandro Arevalo, manager of the Jupiter global emerging markets corporate bond fund, added: “We continue to find a host of attractive opportunities in the EMD space, and the breadth and depth of expertise Chockalingam and Karim bring to the team will prove invaluable when seeking to exploit further the potential in this area. I look forward to working with them as we build on the solid foundations we have established.”
