Individual and institutional investment provider Neuberger Berman has hired a former independent investment strategist to advise across its asset classes.

Leah Modigliani became a senior vice president and multi-asset class strategist at the firm on 5 May.

Based in New York, she will advise on investment strategy across all its asset classes, which include equity, fixed income, and alternatives.

She reports directly to the firm’s head of investment strategy and risk, Alan Dorsey.

Previously, Modigliani acted as an independent investment strategist, advising non-profits, foundations and endowments on their portfolio construction and management, specialising in the US stock market.

For 12 years beforehand, she was employed by Morgan Stanley. Among her roles there, she was an executive director and US strategist in its research department. She has also managed equity mutual funds, balanced asset allocation funds, and a macro hedge fund.

Modigliani co-developed the M-squared measure of risk-adjusted return for portfolio performance evaluation, and designed the firm’s stock risk rating system.

Modigliani left Morgan Stanley to work on her own in 2008.
