Spanish stock market trading volume worth €33.6bn in August

The overall trading volume in August 2017 on the Bolsa de Madrid came in at €33.6bn, up 9.5% year-on-year.

Over the first eight months of the year, the trading volume totalled €450.7bn, down 4.2% in comparison to the end of August 2016.

Some 3.3 millions of equity trades were recorded on the Spanish stock market in August 2017, up 6.4% yoy.  A total of €34.8m have been traded on the equity segment of Madrid’s stock exchange for the first eight months of the year, a figure that has slumped by 7.7% on a yearly basis.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume last month was €218.6m, down 0.4% month-on-month and down 15.3% year-on-year. In August, 6,532 ETF trades have been reported on the Spanish stock market, a 13% increase compared to August 2016.

Fixed Income
The Spanish fixed income market has seen transactions worth €70.3bn as of the end of August, down 41.4% yoy.

New issues on private debt market in August reached  €1.1bn, leaving an accumulated trading volume of €80.4bn (-15.3%) for the first eight months of the year.

Admissions on  the MARF market at the end of August came in at €2.6bn, up 105% yoy. The outstanding balance to the end of August increased by 54.7%  on a yearly basis to €2.3bn.

Derivatives, options, warrants
A total of €304.3m of warrants and certificates on the Spanish stock exchange have been traded to the end of August, down 38.2% year-on-year. The trading volume in this segment in August was €33.9m, up 26.3% month-on-month.

The trading volume in the derivatives market in the first eight months of the year amounted to 27.3 million contracts, remaining the same relative to the previous year.

In August. there were 471,127 IBEX 35 futures contracts and 121,835 Mini IBEX futures traded, up 3.6% and 2.3% month-on-month respectively.

At the same time, trading in IBEX 35 Options decreased by 5.3% yoy, with 160,879 contracts traded, while in contrast the open position has risen by 0.5% to 643,723 contracts.

The trading volume and the open position of stock futures increased year-on-year 11.4% and 22.6% respectively.

Trading in stock options has grown in August by 40.2%, and in the first eight months of the year by 4.4% respectively. There were 1.3 million contracts traded, bringing the figure to the end of August to 13 million. The open position has increased by 6.8% from July 2017.
