Guernsey has signed a Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) with the Republic of Slovenia, the third TIEA signed by the island in under a month.

In September 2011 Guernsey signed TIEAs with the Czech Republic and the Bahamas.

Iztok Jarc, ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, and Lyndon Trott (pictured), Guernsey’s chief minister, finalised the agreement at a ceremony in the island’s capital, St Peter Port, in late September.

The push for greater tax transparency is an ongoing trend in Europe. Sweden has proposed TIEAs with Costa Rica, Switzerland and Liechtenstein over the course of 2011. Switzerland also signed similar tax information sharing agreements with Germany and the UK this summer.

The bilateral agreement with Slovenia brings the total number of TIEAs signed by Guernsey to 29. It is the Island’s thirteenth TIEA with an EU Member State and the nineteenth with a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Guernsey has now signed Tax Information Exchange Agreements (TIEAs) with 29 territories: Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, South Africa, Slovenia, Sweden, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
