London-based Algebris Investments has appointed Tommaso Cotroneo as chief risk officer.

Cotroneo (pictured) will be responsible for developing the existing risk management framework and technology, to support the firm’s ongoing growth trajectory. He will report to CEO and founder Davide Serra.

Serra said: “ The appointment of a separate CRO is in line with the current corporate governance requirements for the financial sector.”

“Tommaso’s vast risk and compliance experience across sectors is invaluable this transformational step”.

Cotroneo joins from London based UniCredit, where he was global head of Equity Derivatives Strategy as well as head of UK Equity Derivatives Sales.

Formerly, he worked for ANZ in Asia on the Equity Derivatives Trading and Structuring desk. Prior to that, he held the post of structurer at Merrill Lynch, firm where he started his career as an Equity Derivatives strategist.

Cotroneo said: “Our fiduciary duty to investors is to generate performance whilst shielding them as much as possible from volatility and other risks inherent to financial markets.

“Global markets are entering a new phase as they start adjusting to the end of QE and ultra-low interest rate policy that has characterized the last decade”.
