Andrew Dalton, who founded and was managing partner and chief investment officer of Dalton Strategic Partnership, passed away unexpectedly at the weekend.

Andrew Dalton, who founded and was managing partner and chief investment officer of Dalton Strategic Partnership, passed away unexpectedly at the weekend.

His family was with him at his home in Scotland. He suffered a fatal heart attack. He was 61.

Magnus Spence, chief operating officer, said: “Andrew will be sadly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. He was a wonderful man and an outstanding investor.”

Spence will take over as managing partner of the firm that Andrew Dalton established in 2002.

Dalton brought over 30 years of investment experience to the task of building Dalton Strategic Partnership, which manages $2.2bn on behalf of a wide variety of clients.

He was directly responsible for the Global Asset Allocation team which manages approximately $400m.

His asset management responsibilities have been assumed by Rupert Caldecott, who worked alongside him since joining DSP in 2006.

Before joining Dalton Strategic Partnership, Caldecott was head of private client business at Schroder Investment Management.

Spence said: “Rupert is a highly experienced investor who co-managed the funds with Andrew and was deeply involved in the asset allocation decisions of that team.”

Before starting DSP, Andrew Dalton worked at S G Warburg & Co, before becoming a director and then vice chairman of Mercury Asset Management PLC.

He was also a highly regarded member of the Bank of England’s high level LOTUS group and a director of the International Financial Management Association.

He leaves his wife Jenny and four children.
