Aviva Investors, the global asset management company of UK insurer Aviva plc, has strengthened its European real estate asset management team with two new appointments.

Matthias Hübner joins as fund manager Long Income Europe and Alexander Sperl as asset manager Real Estate. Both will be based in the Frankfurt office and report to Gil Bar, managing director Real Estate Germany.

Matthias Hübner is primarily responsible for managing the Aviva Investors Continental European Long Lease Strategy (CELLS), which was launched earlier this year. The fund aims for a secure and predictable cash flow from predominantly indexed leases with at least 15 years maturity. The portfolio will consist of continental European real estate, with a focus on office, retail and logistics real estate as well as alternative usage in Germany, Austria, Benelux and Scandinavia.

Hübner comes from the German Real Estate Funds, where he most recently was responsible for student housing in Germany as head of Investment Management. Previously, he developed an infrastructure fund concept with a focus on the DACH region. Before that, he worked for Morgan Stanley Real Estate and Deka Immobilien in fund management, where he focused on managing international real estate investments for German funds.

Alexander Sperl strengthens the team as asset manager and is responsible for real estate asset management initiatives within the German hub. Sperl comes from Commerz Real AG, where he spent almost ten years as a senior asset and investment manager for Germany and Austria.
