FINMA appoints Giger as deputy CEO

The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA has now appointed Peter Giger as deputy CEO, completing the appointments to its executive board.

The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA has now appointed Peter Giger as deputy CEO, completing the appointments to its executive board.

Alongside his position as deputy CEO, Giger will also head the insurance division as of October 2014. Michael Schoch, interim head of the Banks division will now become head of the Banks division.

Giger holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Zurich. He has worked in the insurance sector for more than 20 years, initially at Zurich Insurance Group (ZIG) then at Swiss Re and since 2002 in a senior management position at ZIG, among others as CFO General Insurance. From 2011, Peter Giger presided over the Finance and Regulation Committee of the Swiss Insurance Association.

Schoch joined FINMA in April 2012 as head of the Risk Management section of the Banks division. Prior to that, he held various positions in finance and risk control at UBS. Earlier this year, Michael Loretan has been appointed as head of the asset management division.
