Nitin Dewan has joined BlueMountain Capital Management’s equities team as portfolio manager, primary strategies, effective 9 August 2018. In the newly-created position, Dewan will report to Lance Rosen, who joined BlueMountain as head of Equities last year.

Dewan will be responsible for identifying both core and tactical long-short opportunities presented by the systematic mispricing of equities around capital market events such as IPOs and Follow-ons.

Prior to joining BlueMountain, Dewan was head of Event-Driven and Special Situations at BlueMar Capital Management, where he managed a strategy designed to capture alpha from systematic mispricing of stocks around equity capital market events. Previously, He was a primary strategies analyst at Alyeska Investment Group, a multi-billion-dollar equities fund, and held analyst positions at Shumway Capital Partners and Blackstone. He began his career at McKinsey & Company.

His appointment is part of the expansion of the firm’s fundamental long-short equities team led by Rosen. Earlier this year, Sanket Patel and Mahmood Reza joined as portfolio managers of Global Energy and Global Financials, respectively. BlueMountain also promoted Jared Gould from senior analyst to portfolio manager of Global Industrials and hired two analysts for the Global Industrials team and an analyst for the Global Energy team. The firm plans to hire more sector portfolio managers and supporting analysts in the coming months.

The expansion of fundamental long-short equity investment strategies complements the firm’s quantitative and systematic equity investment strategies, led by Perry Vais.
