Trium
Trium Capital, the London-based alternative asset manager, has hired Adrien Szappanyos to manage a new top-down equity long/short strategy. Szappanyos’ appointment is one of several recent high-profile hires, as Trium prepares to unveil a broader proposition to investors later this year.
Szappanyos spent the past six years managing fundamental and technical strategies at a family office. Prior to this, he was a partner at Third Phase Capital Management and managing partner of ACS Capital.
Amundi
Amundi has appointed Philip Philippides as head of third-party distribution for UK. He will be based in London.
Philippides joined Amundi in January 2014 as head of ETF & Indexing Sales for UK and Ireland. He started his career in private wealth management at Old Mutual in 1997 before moving to Morgan Stanley where he worked in sales from 2001 to 2007.
BNY Mellon
BNY Mellon Investment Management has hired Shamik Dhar for the newly-created role of chief economist, responsible for conducting proprietary research and analysis, in order to develop economic commentary.
Dhar, who was previously chief economist in the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will act as the firm’s primary spokesperson on global macroeconomics.
Russell Investments
Russell Investments has named Chris Davies as its head of UK distribution for retail and wholesale.
In his new role, Davies will lead the firm’s strategy to extend its relationships with advisors and financial intermediaries. He will oversee Russell Investments’ intermediary business in the UK, working closely with a wide range of wholesale and retail clients, reporting to Joe Linhares, head of EMEA.
CRUX
CRUX Asset Management has hired former Lehman Brothers managing director Philip Howard as chairman.
He will replace Charles Ferguson, who is set to become a non-executive director at the firm.
Prior to CRUX, Howard was a senior independent director at Schroders, having been a non-executive director since 2008.
UBS Jersey
The UBS Financial Intermediaries team in Jersey has appointed three new staff to assist with the growth of its External Asset Manager business.
Jean-Paul Coutanche and Emma Gouyette have joined as Client Advisors, and Charlotte Hervé as a Client Advisor Assistant.
New Client Advisor, Jean-Paul Coutanche, has over 14 years’ experience in the finance industry, with seven years as a Product Analyst. Emma Gouyette is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities Investment, with 20 years’ experience in financial services.
Charlotte Hervé has been appointed as a Client Advisor Assistant. Hervé attained her Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators Certificate in Offshore Finance and Administration in 2006 and her International Compliance Association Certificate in Compliance from the Jersey International Business School in 2016.
JP Morgan
JP Morgan’s asset management arm appointed a new chief executive of Asia Pacific. He takes over from the current head, who is defecting to British insurer Prudential.
The American bank named Dan Watkins as chief executive officer of Asia Pacific in asset management. Watkins is currently the operating chief of the unit in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Citi Private
Citi Private Bank has appointed a veteran banker previously from UBS to boost the bank’s offshore business serving super-rich clients from Taiwan.
Citi Private Bank appointed Sally Yeh as global market manager for Taiwan. She joins the American bank from UBS, where she most recently led a team of offshore bankers working with entrepreneurs from Taiwan.
