Chris Gill, a well-known executive in Asian financial circles as a result of five-and-a-half years as managing director of Friends Provident International’s Singapore operations, is to join St James’s Place Wealth Management Asia as development director of its international business.

Gill, who most recently has been working for Aviva UK in a project leadership capacity, will remain in the UK as he takes on his new role with Cirencester, England-based, FTSE 100-listed St James’s Place, the company said in a statement.

Gill “will oversee proposition development as SJP Asia further builds its position as a leading provider of face-to-face advice across the region”, SJP said.

As reported,  SJP Asia was created in the wake of SJP’s acquisition in 2014 of the Singapore-based, expat-focused Henley Group advisory firm, founded by Antony Michell in 1990, originally in Hong Kong.  Prior to the sale,  in 2013, Michell had established a UK office in Bristol, England, in partnership with St James Place.

Gill joined Aviva UK from FPI Singapore in June, 2016, a little more than a year after the UK-based insurance giant acquired Friends Provident International as part of its £5.6bn (US$8.8bn) deal to acquire the UK-based Friends Life Group – and in the process created what was at the time the UK’s largest insurance, savings and asset management company.

While heading up Friends Provident International in Singapore, Gill served as deputy president of the Life Insurance Association in Singapore.
