Now Health International, the Hong Kong-based international private medical insurance provider which acquired the Bermuda and Miami-based Best Doctors Insurance group in July 2015, has named David Capote vice president of sales and marketing for its Americas operations.

At Now Health, Capote, pictured, who will be based in Miami, will be responsible for driving strategic business development in Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean, the company said in a statement. He succeeds Pia Malem Christoffersen, who has left the company.

Capote has been working in the international insurance industry for almost 20 years, most recently as vice president of sales for international major medical products at New Orleans-based Pan-American Life Insurance Co. He began his career in 1997 with Amedex Insurance Co, and subsequently spent six years with Bupa International.

Martin Garcia, an IPMI veteran who co-founded Now Health six years ago, said Capote was well suited to the new role, based on his “proven experience of building relationships and delivering results”.

Capote’s appointment follows the recent promotion at Now Health of Elizabet Narciandi, to managing director of the Americas region, from senior vice president.

Garcia founded Now Health International five years ago to target what he saw as a large and relatively under-tapped private medical insurance market among expatriates and high-net-worth clients in Hong Kong, mainland China, Indonesia, Europe, the Middle East and other countries in which the private health care industry is also growing rapidly.  In addition to Hong Kong, it has offices in the UK, United Arab Emirates, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, Ecuador, USA (Miami) and Indonesia, for a total of 12 sales and/or service offices staffed by more than 380 employees, who look after more than 115,000 clients.

Now Health’s geographic footprint was substantially increased by last year’s acquisition of Best Doctors Insurance, which at the time it was acquired had a distribution network throughout Central and Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada.

In August, as reported, Now Health unveiled a major  new “strategic partnership” with a subsidiary of Reinsurance Group of America (RGA), in a “worldwide, multi-year” deal that it said would underpin its efforts to develop sustainable growth over the long term, in the wake of the Best Doctors Insurance acquisition.
