Investors Trust Assurance, the Cayman Islands-regulated life insurance products provider, today is unveiling new options for its S&P 500 Index-based investment range, to give investors more choice in the time period they commit to holding the product for.

As of today, ITA says it is offering a “newly-revamped” set of options to its standard 15 year S&P 500 unit-linked product range that “includes 10- and 20-year plans”, thus providing “more flexibility and greater opportunities to a wider audience of international investors”.

The company said it decided to expand the range in response to market research. Explained chief marketing officer and  head of global distribution, Ariel Amigo: “We are constantly listening and looking for ways to better serve international investors.

“With the expansion of our S&P 500 Index products [range], we believe we have the ideal solutions…to reach a broader range of international investors, as well as financial advisers.”

Investors Trust first launched its S&P 500 Index range back in 2004. It is, of course, tied to the performance of the  S&P 500 (as in “Standard & Poors”) stock index, which dates back to 1923, when Standard & Poor’s introduced an index covering its then-233 constituent member companies.

The index was expanded to include 500 companies in 1957, and is today comprised of some 500 major companies that have their shares listed on the New York Stock Exchange or NASDAQ. (See below left for the top 10 constituent members, by weighting, as of  10 May, 2017.)

It differs from some of the other well-known stock market indices, such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average or the Nasdaq Composite index, by the diversity of its constituent companies and its weighting methodology, and as such, is widely regarded as a bellwether for the US economy.

More information about the Investors Trust S&P 500 Index range may be found  in the product fact box, below.
