Ashburton Investments has promoted Jonathan Schiessl to the newly-created post of chief investment officer, within its international investment team.
Schiessl, (pictured), a director at Ashburton Investments in Jersey, assumes his new role with immediate effect. It will see him take on responsibility for the firm’s global investment fund range and portfolio management services.
The CIO role was created as part of a strategic restructuring at Ashburton Investments, a spokesperson said, designed to ensure “depth and continuity within Ashburton’s international business, as the firm looks to position itself strongly for the years ahead”.
The duties and responsibilities Schiessl will be taking on as CIO had previously been taken care of by various individuals in the Ashburton investment team.
Having joined Ashburton in 2000, Schiessl has 19 years’ experience in the investment industry. Prior to taking on his new role, he was Ashburton’s head of equities.
He is also lead fund manager of the Ashburton India Equity Opportunities fund, which he will continue to manage.
Separately, Ashburton announced that Derry Pickford and Marianna Georgakopoulou have been promoted to joint heads of Ashburton Investments’ Asset Allocation team in London.
Pickford has been heading up Ashburton’s macro analysis operations for the last several years, while Georgakopoulou joined Ashburton last year from Pivot Capital Management (Monaco), where her title had been multi asset strategist.
As part of the re-structure, Georgakopoulou will take over day-to-day portfolio responsibility for the asset management funds, while Pickford will manage the global multi asset funds.
Ashburton Investments is the asset management division of FirstRand International Asset Management, itself a part of South Africa-based, Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed First Rand Group.
