Demand from institutional investors in Spanish property has recovered to the extent that commercial building surveying consultancy Malcolm Hollis is to open its first Continental European office in Madrid this September.
This will be the consultant’s first office beyond the 15 it currently operates across the UK and Ireland.
Senior partner John Woodman, said: “The commercial property market across Europe is buoyant with many investors looking to expand their portfolios and property companies taking advantage of development opportunities.”
“Building surveyors in the UK and Ireland have been leading the way globally when it comes to adopting new technologies and improving standards. Clients increasingly want to ensure the same consistent quality of technical due diligence and project management on the Continent as they do in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Dublin or elsewhere. Currently they only get this from the global multi-discipline firms. Our independence appeals to a lot of our clients in order to avoid conflicts of interests and the opening of our Madrid office is the first step in us being able to offer this on the ground in local markets throughout Europe.”
The Madrid office will be headed by John Watson, who joins as partner and has been living in Spain for 23 years working with clients such as Standard Life and DekaBank.
Further offices are expected to be announced across Europe in coming months, the company said.
