Asset manager MFS has launched the MFS Meridian Funds – US Equity Opportunities Fund, offering access to a concentrated, high-conviction multi-cap US equity strategy.
The fund utilizes a bottom-up stock selection and portfolio construction process, combining MFS’ fundamental and quantitative research, its portfolio includes 40 to 50 stocks.
Managed by Matthew Krummell, it seeks to generate long-term risk-adjusted performance over a full market cycle of three to five years. Krummell is based in Boston and has been with MFS since 2001, among others as quantiative equity research analyst and portfolio manager. Prior to that, he worked as portfolio manager at Pioneer Investments and assistant vice president at Putnam Investments.
Commenting on the launch, Krummell said, ‘In our view, fundamental and quantitative research are complementary, the inherent strengths of one type of research generally offset the inherent weaknesses of the other. The combination of two independent stock selection processes in this portfolio means that we leverage only our best ideas for the benefit of our clients.’
