Canada Life Group Insurance managing director Ian McMullan has died after a battle with cancer.
McMullan, who died on Friday, is survived by his wife and two children. He first joined Canada Life Group in 1998 and went on to assume the role of managing director in 2006.
Canada Life Group Insurance group chief executive Doug Brown expressed “great sadness” at the news and praised McMullan’s achievements, in a statement by the firm, following the news.
“Under his stewardship, the group division became the largest insurer by premiums, employers and employees, and won numerous awards for best group risk insurer, as voted by advisers,” said Brown.
“These accomplishments are testament to Ian’s focus and drive as group insurance MD. Ian always acted in the best interests of the customer, the business and his colleagues. He was an outstanding leader and his high standards mean both the business and his colleagues are better for having known him.
“A real people person, he will be deeply missed by all those he worked with, from his colleagues to advisers and suppliers. Our sincere thoughts are with his family at this difficult time,” added Brown.
Tim Stoves, who has been acting as interim managing director during McMullan’s illness, will continue in this role.
