BNP Paribas IP names Langlands to head its Oz, New Zealand advice business

BNP Paribas Investment Partners has named James Langlands to head up its advice business in Australia and New Zealand, a new role that will involve working with dealer groups, private wealth firms, family offices, consultancies, research houses, platform providers and others.

Langlands, who will be based in Melbourne, will be responsible for growing BNP Paribas’s funds under management, the company said in a statement.

Most recently Langlands has been head of wealth advisory (retail) with BlackRock, also working out of Melbourne. He first joined BlackRock in 2001.

In his most recent role there, he oversaw BlackRock’s retail client business in Australia, which involved working with private banks, independent financial advisers, the client relationship managers of major banks, and research organisations.

During his time at BlackRock he held a number of other roles as well, including a stint as director of its institutional client business, and another as co-head of its customised portfolio service.

At BNP Paribas, Langlands reports to David Grybas, chief executive of BNP Paribas Investment Partners’ Australia and New Zealand business.

BNP Paribas Investment Partners’ Australia and New Zealand head office is in Sydney, though it also has offices in Melbourne and Perth, Australia, and Wellington, NZ. BNP Paribas Investment Partners is the asset management arm of the Paris-based BNP Paribas banking group, one of the world’s largest banks, and has more than 3,000 employees in 35 countries, who manage assets totalling €533bn.
