Investec makes TV star its SA brand ambassador
Investec Private Banking has appointed South African media personality and model Masego ‘Maps’ Maponyane as its official brand ambassador, in a move to target young South Africans with high potential earning power.
Maponyane, who describes himself on his Facebook page as “a bespectacled (on most occasions) South African Model, TV Presenter, Actor, Writer, Designer, Entrepreneur and Creative Consultant on a mission”, was made brand ambassador after starring in a YouTube video for Investec.
The aim of the video, Investec said, was “to introduce young professionals to Investec Private Banking at the start of their careers and entrench Investec as an aspirational brand in this market.” The video, which you can watch below, is shot in slick black and white, and begins at a university graduation.
It presents Investec as helping cool, young professionals’ make their dreams come true, at one point depicting an Investec private banker as an obliging-but-classy butler-like character holding Maponyane’s jacket open for him to slip into.
Investec’s head of banking South Africa Deon Katz (pictured with Maponyane) said he was “very impressed” by the media personality’s professionalism.
“Although he is young, he exudes warm confidence, ambition and charisma. Combined with his entrepreneurial spirit and magnetic personality, he is a prefect fit for Investec Private Banking. We look forward to working with Maps on various projects this year and seeing what the future holds for this rising star.”
Maponyane admitted that, before working with Investec, he had a perception of it being a “more traditional” brand, but said he impressed by a “dynamic young team” that shares his “passion for business”.
The entrepreneur, who lists “academia” as among his main interests, took to Twitter to announce his appointment to his 111,000 followers.
I’m honoured, proud and excited to announce that I am officially the first and new brand ambassador of @investec Private Banking. ?
