Guernsey Finance opens Hong Kong office
Guernsey Finance, the promotional body for the Bailiwick’s finance industry, has opened an office in Hong Kong.
Located at Three Pacific Place in Admiralty, the Hong Kong office is Guernsey’s second Asian base, following the opening of an office in Shanghai in 2008.
The office opening was hosted by Guernsey Finance director of international business development Kate Clouston. Clouston, along with Guernsey Finance Asia representative Wendy Weng, who is based in Shanghai, will use the office to promote Guernsey’s finance industry to the South East Asian market.
It will also be used by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC) to provide regulatory advice to businesses in the region who are considering Guernsey-specific ventures. The GFSC’s John Dunford has relocated to Hong Kong to act as the regulator’s representative.
Leon Santos of offshore law firm Collas Crill said the new office represented “an important step for Guernsey Finance as their commitment to North Asia grows. Hong Kong is the conduit for so much cross border business particularly with mainland China”.
He went on: “We see much interest in investing in the United Kingdom and Europe, from Asian investment houses, conglomerates and high net worth clients.”
