Generali adds ‘concierge service’ to new HK expat health plan
Generali Global Health, the international health insurance division of Trieste-based Assicurazioni Generali, has added a “concierge service” to its recently-launched insurance range for expats in Hong Kong.
The new concierge service will provide plan-members of the Generali Global Choice scheme – as the new insurance range is called – with help in finding a specialist for their particular medical condition, and book their appointments for them, Generali Global Health said.
The company has its own dedicated team to handle concierge service requests, which it said will be working in partnership with The Specialist Consortium, a Hong Kong-based business that represents some 60 “internationally trained” doctors specialising in some 23 areas of medicine, working out of more than 25 Hong Kong locations.
“The service aims to provide appointments within three days of the member’s initial call, and all eligible appointments are settled directly in liaison with Generali Global Health’s claims team,” Generali Global Health said, in a statement.
The partnership has also secured preferential specialist fees, which the insurer noted was in keeping with is own ongoing efforts to manage medical cost inflation, and thus keep premiums stable for its customers.
Coincides with Global Choice launch
Generali Global Health unveiled the concierge service, which is only available to its Hong Kong clients, less than two weeks after announcing the launch in Hong Kong of its expat-focused flagship health insurance plan, Global Choice. The Global Choice range is aimed at companies, particularly in the small- and medium-sized sector, and is available to non-expat locals as well as “globally mobile” employees, a company spokesperson said.
The announcement of the launch of the Global Choice range in Hong Kong, in turn, came days after Generali unveiled a new Hong Kong life insurance business that, as reported, is targeting “high net worth individuals and mass affluent customers” living there.
Generali Life (Hong Kong) Ltd – a Generali Group, rather than Generali Worldwide, initiative – will offer a “comprehensive range” of traditional life, unit-linked and universal life insurance products under its new licence.
Generali has been marketing life and general insurance products in the Hong Kong market for almost 40 years. But like many other multi-national insurance companies, it has been tweaking its international business recently, as it looks to adjust to and accommodate changes in the markets in which it operates.
Marco Giacomelli, Head of Generali Global Health, said the company saw a demand for the concierge service among Hong Kong expats whose demanding jobs often make it difficult for them to handle such matters themselves.
“The Specialist Consortium…[gives] our members peace of mind as well as time back in their busy schedules, which is otherwise lost to undertaking the task [of finding a specialist and booking an appointment] themselves,” he explained.
“This new service is just another way we are innovating to enhance the high standard of service we offer.”
Founded in 1831, Generali currently operates in more than 120 countries worldwide. Global Choice is its flagship international health insurance offering.
