Salamanca Group Trust adds new Mauritius MD

Salamanca Group has appointed a new managing director for its Salamanca Group Trust (Mauritius)

Gordon Stuart has joined the firm as managing director of Salamanca Group Trust (Mauritius) Ltd (SGTM) and will have overall responsibility for SGTM’s operations and its dedicated team in the country. He will also be driving business development initiatives into the African market, with a strong focus on South Africa, the firm said.

He joins SGTM with immediate effect and is completing a handover process with Steve Whitley, the current MD, who has made a decision to leave Mauritius to be closer to his children in the UK.

Stuart has more than 18 years’ experience in the private client and trust industry in South Africa. He joins the firm from Sentinel International Advisory Services, a South African fiduciary services company, where he was most recently group chief operating officer; a position he has held since March 2009.

Xavier Isaac, head of trust & fiduciary, at Salamanca Group, said: “Gordon has an intimate knowledge of the South African market and has built an impressive track record of business growth”.

The firm said that Stuart has industry knowledge across a broad range of disciplines including South African exchange controls, tax, trusts and wills. He is a full member of the International Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEP) and a member of the Fiduciary Institute of South Africa (FPSA
