ETFs and updated fund range added to Momentum int’l platform

Momentum Wealth International (Momentum) is introducing ETFs to its investment platform for the first time from 1 September.

Momentum will initially introduce a range of ETFs from several global providers such as I-Shares, SPDR, ETFS and Source that are all listed and traded on the London Stock Exchange.

Speaking to International Investment earlier today Provisca, the company responsible for distribution of the Momentum platform to international advisers, revealed that the addition of the ETF range will also be backed with a significant update to its Select range of funds on its platform.

As a result of the changes an additional 64 funds have been added, with 16 funds coming off the previous quarter’s list. The Select Fund Range currently features 232 funds selected by Momentum covering all the main asset classes.

Provisca said that the addition of the ETFs reflected the “changing needs of international advisers” and was based on client feedback and requests for ETFs on the platform.

ETFs are available across the platform’s general investment account, the Personal Portfolio, and its open architecture life insurance and capital redemption portfolio bond, the International Portfolio Bond. Any client portfolio can hold a blended combination of mutual funds and ETFs, and advisers can switch between ETFs and mutual funds, and vice versa, including through the platform’s online switching functionality, Provisca said.

Bryan Low, marketing director of Provisca, pictured second on left, said: “The introduction of ETFs contributes to the choice and flexibility that advisers enjoy on the Momentum international platform. ETFs have become important building blocks within client portfolios, providing a relatively low-cost and targeted way to track index returns and gain convenient access to wide range of asset classes and global markets.

“We believe that ETFs will continue to grow in importance and following this initial ‘phase 1’ launch we will see more ETFs made available on the platform to broaden the choice and diversification opportunities available to advisers and their clients.”

Select Fund update

Momentum’s updated Select Fund Range for Q3, will see new funds on the platform from fund managers such as Fidelity, Fundsmith, GAM, Guinness, Liontrust, Marlborough and Vanguard.

The Select range is a form of “guided architecture” that helps advisers review the full fund universe available on the Momentum international platform and reduce the options to a manageable number of funds which meet certain defined standards.

Nigel Watson, sales director at Provisca, pictured first, above left, said: “Providing quarterly updates to the Select Fund Range and adding ETFs to the platform builds on the almost two decades of experience that Momentum has in providing a flexible, secure, online platform solution to advisers and their clients.

“We’ll continue to focus on meeting advisers’ investment proposition needs on the platform, from a very extensive range of permissible mutual funds and ETFs, through to guided architecture, managed portfolios and bespoke discretionary management.”

South African-backed

Momentum is part of MMI Holdings, the investment and insurance giant which is the third largest listed insurer on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. MMI Holdings has assets under management of US$48bn (as of 30 June 2016).
