Lombard creates new COO role in bid to expand portfolio services
Luxembourg-based wealth management specialists Lombard International Assurance, has created a new chief operating officer role for its European operations.
Paul Upchurch has joins Lombard in the newly-created role, reporting to Axel Hörger, CEO Europe of Lombard International Assurance.
Lombard told International Investment that it has created the COO role to further enhance the way it serves its partners and clients and “to align more closely” a number of its internal departments to form a more “simple, open and collaborative” operating model.
Based in Luxembourg, Upchurch, pictured left, will lead a multi-disciplinary team including client services, investment administration, IT and “change functions”.
He will be responsible for advancing digital innovation, operations and capital investments across the European business, the company said.
In addition, Upchurch will join the senior management team and will be involved in both developing and implementing the European growth strategy.
He joins Lombard International Assurance from Blackstone, where he served as executive director in their portfolio operations group. Before joining Blackstone, Paul served as executive vice president, professional services, at Nielsen, where he led teams in demand creation, pricing and trade optimisation and innovation.
Hörger said that Upchurch has been “highly successful” working side-by-side with more than 50 portfolio companies at Blackstone and overseeing significant investments in people, technology and operations, paying tribute to Upchurch’s “distinctive blend of commercial, operational, and technological expertise”.
Upchurch said that he has a “passion for developing leaders, building collaborative cultures and bringing innovation to businesses”.
