IPMI People Moves: Bupa Global, Now Health International

Bupa Global Asia Pacific

Bupa Global, the international health insurance arm of Bupa, has promoted Jonathan Quach  to General Manager of its Asia Pacific operations.

Quach, pictured, previously headed up business development operations for BGAPAC, as the Asia Pacific operation is known, focusing on engagement and sales in the insurer’s wealth management sales channel in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Prior to this, he held senior leadership roles with AIA, Zurich and Friends Provident International, according to Bupa.

Bupa Global managing director Sheldon Kenton said Quach’s promotion was evidence of the UK-based insurer’s  “commitment to APAC, a key region for Bupa Global”.

As reported, Bupa Global acquired Care Plus, Brazil’s largest local health insurer, towards the end of 2016, and towards the end of last year announced it was introducing a new, “global” range of international private medical insurance to the Brazilian market, which it noted was a first for that country. Globally the company looks after some 16.5 million policyholders, while also providing healthcare for around 10.6 million people in its clinics and hospitals, and looks after more than 22,000 care home residents.

Now Health International

Now Health International Group, the Hong Kong-based international private medical insurance provider, has promoted Sonja de Pattenden general manager for its Middle East and Africa operations, as it prepares to expand its business in the  the region.

De Pattenden, pictured left,  had been business development director for the Middle East and Africa, and has been with the company for more than six years. She will continue to be based in Now Health International’s Dubai office.

As general manager, De Pattenden will be responsible for developing a strategic business plan “to ensure sustained  profitable growth within the MEA region”, Now Health said in a statement.

As reported here last April, Now Health recently expanding its coverage in the United Arab Emirates market to include Abu Dhabi, as part of what it said at the time was a broader plan “to grow the business globally, following the acquisition of Best Doctor’s Insurance in 2015”.

As a result of that expansion, Now Health’s insurance plans, currently available in all other parts of the UAE, are now compliant with the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD), and available for groups with a minimum of ten employees, according to the company.
