Chaucer announces opening of Dubai local office

Specialist UK-headquartered insurance and underwriting firm Chaucer has announced the opening of a new partner office in Dubai aimed at growing Middle Eastern and North African business, the firm has announced.

Part of the Dubai International Financial Centre, Chaucer MENA will target brokers and cedants in the region.

The office will write a broad range of specialty insurance and treaty business through Syndicate 1084 at Lloyd’s, the firm said.

Fawzi Omari, pictured left, will head up the office.

Omari has been based in London until now as part of Chaucer, but spending “significant amounts of time in the region meeting brokers and clients”, a spokesperson for the company told International Investment.

The Dubai Financial Services Authority regulates Chaucer Dubai, incorporated as Chaucer MENA Underwriting Limited.

Chaucer chief executive John Fowle said that having a “strong local presence in the region” would dovetail with Chaucer’s “highly specialised” Lloyd’s underwriting skills to create a strong proposition for brokers and clients in the Middle East and North Africa, a region that he felt offered great potential for growing the business.

Omari said that his task was to deliver “smart risk solutions” to brokers and clients in the region, adding “from my time in the Middle East, I understand how business likes to work here and the specialty products and services business wants”.
