Guardian Wealth training and tech director departs for deVere

Darren Jones, who first joined Dubai-based Guardian Wealth Management as training and technical director a little more than a year ago from Old Mutual International, is leaving the company to take up a similar role with the deVere Group, also based in Dubai.

Guardian Wealth chief executive David Howell said the company is currently looking for a successor to Jones, and probably will hire from the UK, as it is looking for someone with “up-to-date UK standards”, consistent with the company’s hiring policy.

At deVere, Jones (pictured left) – whose title with deVere will be head of global technical development – will be based in Dubai, where he will assume global responsibilities assisting in the training and development of staff, as well as with client education seminars, in addition to being involved in “more complex, individual client needs”, according to a deVere Group statement.

Guardian Wealth Middle East director Hamzah Shalchi noted that Jones’s departure came as the company was in the process of “evolv[ing]” its business model, in addition to expanding in the Gulf region and elsewhere.

As reported, GWM, which was founded by Howell and John Hasberry more than 20 years ago in the UK, opened an outpost in Basel last year – its second in Switzerland, where it has maintained an office in Geneva for more than 10 years. Also last year it opened its first US office, in the Brickell district of Miami.

In addition to its Dubai headquarters and its Swiss outposts, GWM also has offices in Abu Dhabi, Miami, and London, Doncaster, England.

DeVere: ‘major Middle East expansion’

As reported here in February, deVere Group chief executive and founder, Nigel Green, has said that company is planning a major expansion in the Middle East, with the addition of up to 20 new advisers in the region throughout 2018.

Green’s comments coincided with the announcement of the appointment of John Green, who left the company in 2015 to join Guardian Wealth as a branch manager in its Abu Dhabi office, to “senior role” at deVere.
