Beneficial ownership is hot topic at Jersey event

Jersey is hosting more than 30 registry and regulatory professionals from around the world,  in advance of the annual global conference of the Corporate Registry Forum (CRF) and European Commerce Registry Forum (ECRF), set to be held in Cardiff next week.

The event, hosted by the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) and the government of Jersey sees registry experts from across the globe discussing registry matters, with beneficial ownership the hot topic prior, to the CRF and the ECRF events being held by UK Companies House in Cardiff from 9 May to 13 May.

At the event discussions on global registry and regulatory issues such as cyber security, changing registry systems, environments and other legislation will take place.

Among the academics in the field of personal property security visiting Jersey for the study tour are: Prof Sir Roy Goode (university of Oxford and adviser to the government of Jersey), Prof Tony Duggan (university of Toronto – adviser to the government of Australia), Prof Louise Gullifer (University of Oxford and Director of the Secured Law Transaction Project in the UK) and Prof Rom Cuming (university of Saskatchewan).

Julian Lamb, director of the registry, said that it was a “a testimony to Jersey’s standing within international registry fora” that was able to attract academics form around the world.

Senator Philip Ozouf, assistant chief minister, who is speaking at the event said: “Jersey has been at the forefront on beneficial ownership registers since Colin Powell CBE conceived and implemented the Jersey Central Registry in the late 1980s and I am delighted that the Jersey government and the JFSC have been able to welcome registry experts from around the world to discuss the new developments, opportunities and technical advances for registries and regulatory environments.
